San Sebastian Golden Staglets nailed their fourth straight win as they escaped Arellano University Braves with a 70-67 victory in their second round meeting last August 20, Wednesday, at the Arena in San Juan.

Staglets heated up fast as Jeremy Cruz shot 11 big points in the first quarter. Staglets made a scoring domination as they ended the quarter at 25-13 and stayed in the lead, 38-29, at the end of the first half.

Guilmer Dela Torre, Carl Cabahug, and Kenneth Zamora fired up their team in the third period to trim the deficit down to just 4 points, 53-49.

The game was tied 60-all at the 5:58 mark of the fourth quarter until Dela Torre of the Braves scored 2 with his lay-up. Jasper Magno immediately answered

back with his own conversion of a lay-up to tie the game 62 apiece.

With 1:23 left in the fourth, Staglets were leading by 3, 67-64, but the Braves, after two possessions, tied again the game.

After being fouled by Zamora at the tail end of the game, Magno converted a free throw to take a 1-point lead. Magno’s game-changing steal sent Lorenzo Navarro to the line who scored two charity points, ending the ball game 70-67.

Jasper Magno led the scoring board with 20 points while Jeremy Cruz trailed with 17 points.
